Epiphone SG Modern 2024 - Figured Purple Burst
Taking all of its cues from the legendary Gibson SG and piling on some modern tweaks before slapping on a more lenient price-tag, the Epiphone SG Modern Figured electric guitar bears the same timeless double-horned body shape as the OG, but here, comes topped with a slice of flamed maple veneer, giving the mahogany body an extra touch of class. The transparent pot covers are yet another visual update, but the upgrades are not just about the aesthetics. The moment you grab the mahogany neck, the Asymmetrical Slim Taper carve immediately feels at home in your fret-hand, supporting fast and fluid playability all the way from the headstock to the body.
The real test starts when you jack this model into an amp. With the two ProBucker humbuckers you already have some classic dual-coil flavour at your disposal and, via the standard-issue volume and tone controls, everything can be neatly and accurately dialled in. But, because this is the SG Modern, it takes things a couple of steps further. Pull out the control pots, split both humbuckers down the middle and unlock a full range of single-coil tones before experimenting with the phase-switch to change up the output. To finish, you get a high-grade LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece that not only keep the tuning solid no matter how brutal the riff-work gets, but stay firmly in place during re-strings.
