Collaborating with his guitar tech, Alan Rogan, the legendary Pete Townshend came up with a stunning series of modifications to the standard layout of Townshend's newly acquired Gibson Les Paul "Deluxe", to better suit what he required from it on stage.  A Dimarzio humbucker was fitted in the mid-position and controlled by the addition of two Les Paul 3-way toggle switches fitted beside the original control knobs.  One was used for coil-tapping the newly fitted humbucker, the other for controlling on/off functions for the pickup when using it alongside the other two.  The result was undeniably one of Townshend's greatest creations.
